AI drafts, human editors: 6 UK content services compared on editing and publishing
Six real services for UK teams that pair AI drafting with human editing, grouped by route: freelance marketplace, content platform, managed editing and agency.
What to take away
- AI drafting is now common in UK firms, so the question has moved to who edits the draft and who publishes it.
- The six services below reach you by four routesa freelance marketplace, a content platform, a managed editing service and three agencies.
- Only one of the six, EXPRE, publishes a fixed price on the pages we checked.
- Ask every supplier the same two questionswho signs off facts, and where does the finished piece go?
How many UK firms are drafting with AI?
More than a few. The ONS Business Insights and Conditions Survey, published in October 2026, found 30% of UK businesses used at least one AI technology in late September 2026, up from 9% when the question started in September 2023. Among firms with ten or more staff, 38% did.
Text generation with large language models was the most common use in that larger group, at 21%. That is a lot of first drafts. Somebody still has to check them, fit them to a house style and decide where they appear.
Why does the human edit matter for search?
Google's own guidance on generative AI content, last updated in October 2026, tells site owners to fact-check and review all AI-generated content for accuracy before publishing. The same applies to titles, meta descriptions, structured data and alt text. Mass-producing pages without adding value may breach its spam policy on scaled content abuse.
That makes editing a quality step, not a polish. Our five fact-checking checks and the AI style guide template give editors something concrete to work from.
How were the six services chosen?
Each is a real company with a UK presence whose own website offers AI-assisted writing with human review, or human editing of AI text. We grouped them by route, because the route decides how much control you keep. Facts come from each company's site. Prices appear only where published.
Route one: the freelance marketplace
PeoplePerHour
PeoplePerHour describes itself as built for the UK and open to the world, and says 60% of its freelancers and clients are UK-based. Freelancer profiles list skills such as AI content editing, and an AI assistant helps match buyers to freelancers. Rates are set per freelancer rather than by the platform.
- Editing:depends entirely on the person you hire. Test with a short paid piece first.
- Publishing:you agree it with the freelancer. Some will upload to your CMS, many will not.
Route two: the content platform
Textbroker UK
Textbroker UK offers content that is either fully human-authored or AI-enhanced, with the writing team chosen to fit each brief. Its service list includes content strategy, SEO, AI services, translation and a publication, marketing and link building service. The site is operated by Sario Marketing GmbH.
- Editing:the human or AI-enhanced choice is made per order, so state it in the brief.
- Publishing:content arrives ready to publish, with design support if needed, and there is a separate publication service.
Route three: managed editing of AI text
Proofed
Proofed runs a UK site alongside US and Australian versions. Its AI content editing service uses human editors trained on the patterns in AI writing. They check facts against reliable sources, remove hallucinations, and screen for bias and inappropriate content while keeping the brand voice.
- Editing:this is the core service, with fact checking built in. Plans and prices sit on a separate page.
- Publishing:not part of the offer. You receive edited text and publish it yourself.
Route four: agencies that draft, edit and deliver
EXPRE
EXPRE, with offices in Bromley and London Bridge, sells an AI Content Sprint for a fixed £299. It covers up to 5 articles of 1,600 to 2,500 words, or 10 product descriptions, delivered within 48 hours of the brief. Editors review every piece for accuracy, brand fit and tone.
- Editing:the agency says nothing is delivered without editorial sign-off.
- Publishing:pieces arrive formatted and proofread. The sprint page does not mention uploading to your site, so ask.
ProfileTree
ProfileTree is a Belfast agency that has delivered more than 1,000 websites and campaigns since 2011. Its AI content workflow runs from brief and brand guide to generation, fact checking, human edit and sign-off. Editors cut filler, check claims and switch US spelling to UK and Irish forms.
- Editing:the agency states that nothing publishes on the strength of the model alone. Each job is scoped and priced separately.
- Publishing:it also builds and hosts websites, so publishing can sit with the same team.
Edge45
Edge45 is an SEO and digital marketing agency in York. Its content marketing services list AI content creation, copywriting, content audits and digital PR, alongside technical SEO and generative engine optimisation.
- Editing:the homepage does not describe the review step for AI content. Ask who edits and who signs off.
- Publishing:digital PR is the route to coverage on other sites. Check what is placed where before you agree a budget.

What should you agree before the first order?
Put the editing standard in writing. A content brief template helps, and so does a clear disclosure policy on when readers are told AI was used. If an article will appear on another site as paid content, it should be marked as paid.
Then compare suppliers like for like. Our vendor due diligence checklist and the guide to pricing models show which terms to pin down: revision rounds, fact-check liability and who owns the final copy.
Common questions
Is an editing tool enough instead of a service?
Sometimes. Tools catch grammar and tone, as our review of AI editing tools shows, but they do not check whether a claim is true. That still needs a person.
Should the editor see the prompt?
Yes. Knowing what the model was asked for makes it easier to spot where it guessed.
